If you’ve scrolled through Reddit, Twitter, or any DC fan group lately, you’ve probably stumbled across a very specific campaign: Grace Caroline Currey for Wonder Woman. The internet has spoken loudly, and a growing number of fans think the Shazam! star should swap lightning bolts for a Lasso of Truth in James Gunn’s revamped DCU.
But what does the actress herself think about all the hype? When Fortress of Solitude caught up with Grace, she had a refreshingly humble take.
“It’s very sweet. It’s an amazing thing to be in a time where people can post things and their ideas online. Anytime I’ve seen it, I just kind of go, ‘Well, that’s crazy. [Laughs]. That wouldn’t happen.’ But it sure is sweet to think that a few people out there think of that. That’s a really tall order for anyone to fill; those are big shoes. So, if anything, I just feel honored that anyone would imagine me in that sort of thing. But, my goodness, that’s a fantasy, that’s something.”
Okay, sure, she’s calling it a “fantasy”, but fans aren’t backing down. On Reddit, user ItzyBitzy-Pinky posted, “I would totally love this, honestly.” Nervous_Hedgehog8198 chimed in with, “This could work really well,” while this-is-my-p went full send: “You know what? Hell yeah.”
The thing is, Currey already has some DC street cred. She played Mary Bromfield (aka Mary Marvel) in Shazam! and its 2023 sequel, showing off superhero swagger, emotional range, and the kind of screen presence you want in a lead. She’s not new to the pressure, either—Shazam! was a billion-dollar bet for DC, and she delivered.
And let’s not forget: James Gunn pays attention. He’s said he scrolls through fan casting threads, even if he doesn’t always agree with them. That means there’s a real chance he’s seen the Grace Caroline Currey for Wonder Woman posts. Will he act on it? Who knows. But at the very least, he’s aware.
Besides Wonder Woman, fans have also floated around other roles too: Wonder Girl, Zatanna, or any number of cool DC heroines. She’s got options.
So, will Grace Caroline Currey ever pick up Diana’s shield and be the DCU’s Wonder Woman? Maybe. Maybe not. But the fact that people want her to speaks volumes. And in Hollywood, buzz like this matters.
