paper towns

Crash Course cartography meets paperbacked faultlessness, as these stars bring a Vlog that definitely didn’t forget to be awesome.

Ok, so if you don’t know who John Green is and didn’t catch the above references then you need to YouTube more, seriously, where have you been? Also if you don’t know who Nat Wolff is, then you need to watch a 2012 film called Stuck in Love. Don’t worry if you haven’t heard of Cara Delevingne, you will, soon.

Quentin “Q” Jacobsen (Nat Wolff) is your average nice guy. He loves his parents, gets straight A’s and is good to his friends. One thing that Q doesn’t do well is getting out of his comfort-zone. Along comes Margo Roth Spiegelman (Cara Delevingne), long name but a short mission; have an adventure. Margo and Q get along as young kids until Q fades out, out of inaction, as Margo leaps on into social stardom. Years later, in the present, she reaches out one last time, and this time Q breaks his mould. Soon she has him travelling across the country chasing after her… or for some other reason perhaps.

Very few movies put a smile on your face these days. Very few movies really stick with you long after you walk out those double doors. Even fewer movies scoop you up, inspire you and drop you face-first in love with life, with adventure and with simple opportunity. Paper Towns does. Any more details would ruin the story, if you haven’t read the book yet, but let it be said that this is not an ordinary high-school students comedy/drama; this is a serious movie with all sorts of heartfelt moments, life-lessons and thoughtful insights.

One of the many running themes is the worthlessness of paper. Paper is disposable, flammable, soft, even fake and meaningless. But it is in this deep irony that we see hope. Paper brings us books, maps, love-letters, sticky-notes and, thank goodness, even beautiful novels that get turned into beautiful films.
