We have Henry Cavill as The Man of Steel in the DCEU, Tyler Hoechlin as Clark Kent in Superman & Lois and then there’s that new project from Ta-Nehisi Coates featuring a black Superman. If that weren’t enough, Warner Bros. is also working on a new family-friendly, coming-of-age animated Superman series, My Adventures With Superman, for HBO Max with Jack Quaid and Alice Lee as Clark and Lois.
My Adventures With Superman will follow the adventures of a young Clark and Lois (in their 20s) as they work as a team, along with aspiring photographer Jimmy Olsen, at the Daily Planet to make their footprint on the world. Alongside this, the story will also show Superman growing into his role as the hero of Metropolis as he falls helplessly in love with Lois Lane (and she with him, of course).
“Superman has remained one of the most iconic and beloved superheroes in the world,” said Amy Friedman, the head of kids & family programming at Warner Bros. “This fresh take from the Warner Bros. Animation team delivers a modern, relatable Clark Kent alongside a fearless, whip-smart Lois Lane who are navigating the small tasks of both becoming adults and trying to save the world.”
“This is the first animated Superman series in many years and we want to tell our Superman story through the trio of Clark, Lois and Jimmy — whose relationship dynamic will allow for rich, serialized and engaging stories as we explore their lives as individuals and their journey together as friends,” added Sam Register, president of Warner Bros. Animation.
Jack Quaid, who will voice Superman, is best known for his role as Hugie on another superhero show, Amazon Prime’s The Boys.
Alice Lee is probably best known for her role as Emily on Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist and Chelsie in The Real Bros of Simi Valley.
My Adventures With Superman is one of two new DC animated series announced today. The other being Batman: Caped Crusader, which is executive produced by Bruce Timm, J.J. Abrams and Matt Reeves.
Again, like Batman, there certainly isn’t a shortage of both live-action and animated Superman content from DC currently. Still, it will be interesting to see what the team comes up with for My Adventures With Superman.
