It’s a bird. It’s a plane. It’s John Krasinski as Superman?
Something that has always separated the DC Extended Universe from the MCU is the former’s tendency to recast some of its most iconic characters. Just in the modern DCEU alone, we’ve had two versions of the Joker, two Batmen (or more, if you include Batwoman,) and even three incarnations of Flash.
Henry Cavill fans were devastated to know that the British actor might not return to play the Man of Steel in another live-action film. And so, the search for a new Superman for the DCEU has begun.
While we still don’t know who’s going to play Clark Kent in the live-action movies, we do know who will be playing him in DC’s upcoming animated team-up film, DC League of Super-Pets.
John Krasinski, the star of the American version of The Office and the director of the A Quiet Place franchise, has been revealed as the new voice of Superman – and he’s not the only big name attached to this peculiar DC film.

Heroic Companions
As the name suggests, Super-Pets follows a team of some of DC’s heroes’ loyal companions, and we’re not talking about Robin here.
The movie follows the adventures of Krypto the Super-Dog, Ace the Bat-Hound, and Streaky the Super-Cat. These brave canines, and feline, have made some previous appearances in the pages of DC’s comics, particularly during the silver age.
Now, we’ll get to see the DCEU as never before, as we’re finally getting a theatrical release of not only an animated DC film but a computer-animated one at that. While this could herald a new age for superhero films, let’s talk first about the facts we know about the film, namely its star-studded cast.
All-Star Casting
A movie called DC League of Super-Pets might raise more than a few eyebrows – that is until you hear about the spectacular cast that will appear in the movie.
Starring as Krypto the Super-Dog is none other than Dwayne Johnson, who will be joined by Kevin Heart as Ace the Bat-Hound. While we still don’t know who will be voicing Streaky the Super-Cat, Krypto will recruit some other superpowered animals to help him rescue the Justice League from the clutches of Lex Luthor.
The rest of the film’s impressive cast includes Kate McKinnon, Vanessa Bayer, and, of course, Keanu Reeves.
As we mentioned before, John Krasinski will be joining the cast as Superman, a decision that already has fans theorising about the actor reprising the role in a future live-action film.
It’s a dream come true for Krasinski, who always wanted to co-star alongside Dwayne Johnson in a buddy-cop kind of film. While the ex-WWE superstar will be the star of DC’s upcoming animated film, there’s little doubt that Krasinski’s character will prove pivotal to the movie’s plot.
Now that Henry Cavill might not be returning to the role of Superman, there’s a huge gap right in the middle of the DCEU’s Justice League. Considering that the cinematic universe is set to rapidly expand in the coming years, with Shazam 2 and Black Adam right around the corner, Krasinksi could prove to be a more than suitable replacement for Cavill.
While Cavill has expressed his interest in rejoining the DCEU, it all points out towards the universe casting a younger actor going forward – if Robert Pattinson’s Batman is anything to go by.
However, nothing has been said by DC or Warner Bros. regarding the future of the live-action Superman. The only thing we know so far is that Krasinski has proved to be a terrific actor and director, so his joining the DCEU is some great news for fans of the Man of Steel.
Is John Krasinski a good choice for Superman?
