According to a new report from The Hollywood Reporter, British actor Henry Cavill is hanging up the red cape and exiting his Superman role. Of course, this has caused quite a stir in the DCEU and Warner is currently making plans to replace his presence with another Kryptonian, Supergirl.
Cavill, who first suited up as Superman in 2013’s Man of Steel, and then starred in 2016’s Batman v. Superman and last year’s Justice League, was said to appear in 2019’s Shazam!. However, contract talks between Cavill’s WME reps and Warners broke down. Sadly, the result is that the actor might not return for any further appearances as Supes.
This news also puts a question mark on whether we will see Affleck return as Batman. Could this cause a domino effect where we see new actors replacing many of the roles? We’ll have to wait and see.
According to the report from THR, Warner is looking to reset the entire universe and recasting the actors is the first step towards taking the franchise in a new direction.
