Adria Arjona’s trainer, Paolo Mascitti (the man who helped build David Corenswet’s Superman physique), just gave DCU fans another reason to believe the actress could be playing Wonder Woman. A new pic shared to his Instagram Stories shows the actress posing after a workout at his home gym. Her abs are clearly showing, one hand on her hip, while the other holds up her hair. There’s no text to go along with the post – just three flexed-bicep emojis and a tag to Arjona’s account (@adriaarjona).
But the question here is, why is Arjona working out so hard to play the alien warrior-queen, Maxima (a DC villainess with a serious grudge against Superman’s world), in Man of Tomorrow? It seems a lot of effort for a role that doesn’t seem as important as… Wonder Woman.
Adria Arjona’s Trainer Also Built David Corenswet’s Superman Physique

Mascitti is the trainer behind David Corenswet’s transformation into the DCU’s Superman. In an interview with GQ, he revealed that he worked with Corenswet intensely for around five months straight before filming began, pushing the lean 6’6″ actor to 200 to 240 pounds. And even while they were shooting, he made sure that Corenswet had at least three or four sessions a week.
So when the trainer of Superman posts a proud shot of Adria Arjona’s physique, it could mean a lot more. It doesn’t confirm anything, but if we’re honest… she has the look, the acting chops and now the physique to go with playing the Amazon-Olympian princess warrior.
This could be great news for fans, especially since the Puerto Rican actress was among the favorites to play DCU’s Wonder Woman. Still, considering what we know about the DCU, this casting might be more complex than some fans believe.
In recent years, Arjona has left her mark on geek culture. The actress joined the Marvel Multiverse in Morbius and co-starred as Bix Caleen in Star Wars‘ Andor. If the rumors are true and she eventually joins the DCU as Wonder Woman, Arjona is on her way to becoming a modern nerd icon.
Besides her more comic-book-oriented roles, Adria Arjona has also taken on more serious dramatic roles in movies like Los Frikis. To balance things out, Arjona has shown her comedic chops as well, evidenced in 2023’s Hit Man. With such a versatile toolkit, Arjona is undoubtedly a force to be reckoned with in Hollywood – just the kind of talent James Gunn needs for his cinematic universe, especially after Supergirl‘s huge flop.
James Gunn Finally Addressed the Adria Arjona Wonder Woman Rumors

Immediately, when fans noticed Gunn began following Adria Arjona on Instagram a few years ago, most thought the DCU had found its Wonder Woman. Diana Prince is easily the most coveted female role in the DC universe – but that doesn’t mean it’s the only one. DC has a long history of powerful female characters.
In a June 30, 2025 interview with Extra, Gunn tried to debunk some of the rumors: “I follow Adria on Instagram, but everybody came out [and thought], ‘He just followed her, that means she’s Wonder Woman.'” But fans still aren’t buying it, especially when he threw away another line: “She’d be a great Wonder Woman, by the way.”
The Wonder Woman movie is still in development, with a script from Supergirl writer Ana Nogueira (which they might want to rethink after the recent disaster). Gunn has repeatedly said casting won’t happen until that script is locked in. But that doesn’t stop the character from appearing in Superman: Man of Tomorrow (due July 9, 2027) – especially since the cast for that film is already so huge.
Who Else Could Play DCU’s Wonder Woman Besides Adria Arjona
But there’s a long line of actresses hoping to get the part and take over from Gal Gadot. Simu Liu has publicly pushed for co-star Melissa Barrera. Others have pushed for Shazam‘s Grace Caroline.
Deadline reported that Arjona screen-tested alongside Marisa Abela and Ella Purnell for Maxima. Neither one of those actresses really looks like Wonder Woman on paper — though maybe that’s exactly the point, if DCU is trying to throw people off the scent before the real casting news breaks. Gunn has mentioned that only one role remains uncast in Man of Tomorrow, but hasn’t confirmed whether Maxima is even in the movie.
When you put it all together, you can sort of see the bigger picture here. She’s training with the man who put muscle on the DCU’s Superman. She’s friends with James Gunn and has worked with him previously. She has the look and the acting ability to pull off the role. Her boyfriend plays Lobo in the DCU (Jason Momoa appeared in Supergirl). And Gunn hasn’t said in so many words that she isn’t Wonder Woman.
None of it makes Arjona the DCU’s Wonder Woman. But those abs tell a different story.

Nothing at all dreamily, classically beautiful about this woman’s looks. Why don’t you just make a Rachel Levine Wonder Woman already? Or a 400-pound “It’s a Wonder the Woman can walk”?
Gal Gadot was magnificent as Wonder woman…
