Let’s not beat around the bush here: It’s been an awesome year for gaming. While some video games might’ve disappointed the most critical of fans, there were many that exceeded all expectations. In terms of new releases, the next few weeks will be a quiet period, but we’re already looking forward to what games 2020 brings us.
Here are some of the games we’re looking forward to getting our hands on. Of course, there are many other terrific titles set to be released, but these are our picks, so accept it and don’t complain.
Doom Eternal
Originally meant for release this year, Doom Eternal was pushed to March 2020 so that the developers could finish up the game. Truth be told, id Software deserves praise for raising its hand and not releasing an unfinished game (looking at you, WWE 2K20). Everyone knows how incredible 2016’s Doom was, and Doom Eternal already looks set to be another bloody good entry in the series.

Marvel’s Avengers
It doesn’t make any sense why Marvel has waited so long to release an Avengers video game, especially considering the films’ decimation of the global box office. Nonetheless, in May 2020 Marvel’s Avengers will be released on consoles, PC and Google Stadia. While the initial footage wasn’t warmly received, with many fans criticising the graphics and the lack of MCU actors in the roles, it’ll be interesting to see if the game delivers upon release.
Streets of Rage 4
If you had a SEGA console in the ’90s, you played the hell out of Streets of Rage and all its sequels. They were some of the best side-scrolling beat ’em ups of the era, but they disappeared after 1994’s Streets of Rage 3. Fortunately, someone had some common sense and the series has been revived in the form of Streets of Rage 4. Hopefully, Skate is a playable character or we rage (see what we did there?).
Batman: Arkham Legacy
The worst-kept secret in gaming is that there will be a new Batman: Arkham game in 2020. While its official title and release date are still unconfirmed, the rumour is it’s called Batman: Arkham Legacy, centred around the Court of Owls, and will allow you to play as characters from the Bat-Family. Look, it’s been almost five years since Batman: Arkham Knight, so it’s about time that we get a brand-new game set in Gotham City.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Coteries of New York
In what’s set to be the most accurate adaptation of the popular tabletop game, Vampire: The Masquerade – Coteries of New York also took inspiration from Telltale Games to create the gameplay for this new title. It’s the right move and you can see why the developers chose this gameplay mechanic. While it’s been released on PC already, it’s only set for release on console in the first quarter of 2020. Frankly, its release on PS4 and Xbox One can’t come soon enough.
