The first trailer for Vin Diesel’s Bloodshot, which is based on the popular Valiant Comics comic book character created by Kevin VanHook, Don Perlin and Bob Layton in 1992, is here. Of course, it’s appropriately gruesome and filled with cool action sequences, including one scene where the hero, Ray Garrison, a skilled super-soldier, gets his face shot off.
After he and his wife are murdered, Marine Ray Garrison (played by Vin Diesel) is resurrected by a secret team of scientists. Enhanced with nanotechnology, he becomes a superhuman, biotech killing machine – “Bloodshot.” As Ray first trains with fellow super-soldiers, he cannot recall anything from his former life. But when his memories flood back and he remembers the man that killed both he and his beautiful wife, he breaks out of the facility hellbent on revenge, only to discover that there’s more to the conspiracy than he thought.
“Ray Garrison is a central character in the Valiant Comic Universe… And for me personally, one of the must complex characters I have been fortunate enough to play,” Diesel shared in a recent interview.
Directed by visual effects supervisor Dave Wilson from a script written by Jeff Wadlow and Eric Heisserer, Bloodshot is an rated-R Sony film which stars Vin Diesel, Sam Heughan, Guy Pearce, Eiza González, Toby Kebbell, Talulah Riley, Alex Hernandez, Lamorne Morris and Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson.
It seems there is certainly no shortage of comic book films in Hollywood these days. Let’s hope Valiant is able to offer something different from the usual Marvel and DC offerings.
