Mads Mikkelsen and Jamie Campbell Bower as Targaryens? We can totally see it.
Since House of the Dragon was first announced, fans of the Game of Thrones series wanted to see the spinoff and flocked to the series in droves. Fan pages on Facebook quickly cropped up in honour of the upcoming spin-off and the Targaryens, such as the House of the Dragons Fans Facebook page.
The fan page is home to a ton of memes related to both Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon but is mostly related to the latter, posts talking about the actual show and much more.
On September 5, 2022, the fan page posted a picture of Mads Mikkelsen and Jamie Campbell Bower, saying that the two deserved to be cast in House of the Dragon and that they would’ve been perfect as Targaryens.
In less than 48 hours, the post has received more than 100,000 likes, over 2,000 comments, and over 2,000 shares.

It is interesting that the Stranger Things actor was picked out as being a perfect casting for a Targaryen as he was cast to play in another HBO product. House of the Dragon was not the first spinoff that HBO considered. The first spinoff to be produced for HBO was Bloodmoon (not an official name but a production title), which, like the currently airing spinoff, was set to depict the events before that of Game of Thrones.
House of the Dragon is set 300 years before the events of the original series, and Bloodmoon was set to happen a whopping 8,000 years before the events of GoT. The first spinoff was meant to depict the events of the horrifying ‘Long Night’ that is mentioned throughout the series.
Jamie Campbell Bower was actually cast for Bloodmoon which created a pilot that was over an hour long, but when shown to the execs at HBO, the show was unfortunately cancelled. Chief Content Officer Casey Bloys and Warner Media’s former Chairman Robert Greenblatt agreed that Bloodmoon was really well produced but just wasn’t what the network was looking for from their first-ever spinoff in its history. Greenblatt reportedly said, “It didn’t take me to the same place as the original series.” Having already been cast in a GoT spinoff that just didn’t make it to air, Bower would be an awesome fit for a Targaryen in House of the Dragon.

Hannibal actor has always had an affinity for epic characters, so seeing him in something like House of the Dragon would be awesome. It’s not surprising that Bower and Mikkelsen have been placed together in this post as the two played the role of Gellert Grindelwald (present-day and young) in Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, a character that notably had very blonde hair (like a Targaryen).
Both of these actors are incredible and have an incredible range of capabilities. It would be amazing to see them in an epic fantasy series like House of the Dragon.
