The LG G6 Officially Launches In South Africa Today

The LG G6 officially launched in South Africa today, 4th April 2017, at an event at the Fire & Ice Hotel in Melrose Arch, Johannesburg. After winning numerous awards at this year’s MWC in Barcelona, the new LG flagship has finally landed on our shores.

With a slew of smartphones having already been touted at this year’s MWC, Q2 is definitely an exciting time. What was really apparent with today’s launch is how much effort and emphasis was placed on research and study when producing the LG G6 – from the device’s width, screen size and ratio, to whether the display to should be rounded or flat. In addition, these tests and surveys were conducted with your average guy on the street, you and me. The research has no doubt been carried forth into the design of the G6, both aesthetically and functionally, making it a great contender for one of the best smartphones for 2017.

With all the beautifully crafted designs and functionality built into the G6, it’s difficult to forget that it has the specs to back it up too. Some of the LG G6’s features include a new display format, with a 5.7” QHD+ (2880x1440px resolution) Full Vision display and, for the first time ever in a smartphone, an 18:9 screen aspect ratio. This offers more viewing space and a more immersive experience when streaming videos and playing games. The LG G6 is the first smartphone to feature Dolby Vision technology as well as supporting HDR 10, which allows for a wider range of colour and luminosity. With dual 13MP rear cameras, including a 125-degree lens on the wide angle, the G6 captures remarkable panoramic shots, unlike any other smartphone. Qualcomm also revealed some of the behind the scenes efforts and nuances to their new Qualcomm MSM8996 Snapdragon 821 processor, which powers the G6. The unit was designed to facilitate the dual-camera and HDR capabilities, as well as the new display, and Wi-Fi and VoLTE connectivity.

The tech specs include Quad-core (2×2.35GHz Kryo & 2×1.6GHz Kryo) CPU, Adreno 530 GPU, 4GB RAM, 32/64GB internal storage, Dual 13MP rear-facing camera, 5MP front-facing camera, both with wide-angle lenses and Non-removable Li-Po 3300mAh battery.

“We’re thrilled to introduce South Africa to our new flagship smartphone,” says Deon Prinsloo, General Manager of LG Mobile SA. “The G6 surpasses any mobile device that we’ve previously launched, as it was developed with our consumers’ changing needs in mind. That’s what makes this device particularly special.”

The LG G6 will be available in stores from the Friday, 7th April 2017, in the ‘ice platinum’ colour, via Vodacom, MTN and Telkom, and bundled with a free 64GB SD card and Bluetooth headset as a special offer for the month of April. The RRP for the unit has been set at R14,629.00. Part of the VAS includes $200 worth of in-app purchases to a select group of games downloaded from LG Smart World app.

LG has announced the reduced RRP for the G6 to R12,099.
