Disaster movies were few and far between before the turn of the century. Things quickly changed with the surprise success of Twister in 1996, having reached $500m in global box office returns. This not only spawned countless disaster movies but a few in the genre on catastrophic events such as hurricanes and tornadoes. 2024 sees the return of the blockbuster tornado disaster film Twisters.

Twisters Synopsis

“A retired tornado-chaser and meteorologist is persuaded to return to Oklahoma to work with a new team and new technologies.”

Still traumatised by a devastating encounter with a tornado, Kate Carter (Daisy Edgar-Jones) is persuaded back to the open plains as a storm-chaser by her friend, Javi (Anthony Ramos). The duo set out to test a groundbreaking new tracking system. The pair soon cross paths with Tyler Owens (Glen Powell), a charming but reckless social-media superstar. Tyler is an adrenalin junkie who thrives on posting his storm-chasing feats. When the storm season intensifies, Kate, Tyler and their competing teams find themselves in over their heads as they struggle to stay alive, with multiple systems converging over central Oklahoma.
