The Last of Us Season 2 isn’t short of dramatic and heart-in-throat moments, but there’s also a fair amount of levity, courtesy of Bella Ramsey’s Ellie and Isabela Merced’s Dina. Despite everything around them becoming seemingly worse and Hell looking like Cabo in comparison, they still find the time to engage in playful banter and to bring light to this darkened world.
That said, episodes 4 and 5 of The Last of Us Season 2 have featured a few of the most dramatic scenes between Ellie and Dina, including Dina admitting that she’s pregnant with Jesse’s child and Ellie revealing that she’s immune from the Cordyceps infection. In addition to this, Ellie’s rage takes over her in the fifth episode, as she gets a small semblance of justice and revenge for Joel’s murder.
Considering how intense these past two episodes have been, Fortress of Solitude asked Isabela Merced if there were any eventful and funny behind-the-scenes stories that she could share about the filming. “There were a lot of rats in the scenes,” Merced said. “And one of them was really consistent with their staging. They were always running across this one section of the alley, and we named him Ratatouille. And yeah, he was really good at continuity. He always remembered his mark, always crossed the same part of the alley. Unless that was just a bunch of rats, in which case, that’s kind of gross. [Laughs].”

Let’s pretend it was Remy lurking in the alley and waiting for his close-up, so that Ratatouille and The Last of Us can take place in the same universe. Oh, just imagine the crossover potential here – in fact, the Avengers better beware, because this shared universe is coming to eat all those billions at the box office. Alternatively, this could be an unintentional tribute for the Rat King boss from The Last of Us Part II.
Rats and jokes aside, Merced encouraged everyone to rewatch The Last of Us Season 2 after it concludes to discover extra details about the storyline and plot that viewers might have missed upon their first watch. She credited the team around her for paying incredible attention to detail and creating several layers of story to uncover.
