There are very few people who aren’t familiar with Pikachu and his fellow Pokémon. Whether you were first introduced to these cute yet strange creatures through the TV series or the games, Pokémon has become a phenomenon all over the world. And with all the popularity comes loads and loads of licenced toys.
The Pokémon Clip ‘N’ Go Poké Ball Belt Set, as the name suggests, consists of a Pokémon branded belt, some Poké Balls and a Pokémon. The set I received for review contained a Premier and Ultra Ball as well as a little Pikachu.
The little Pikachu fits snugly into the Poke Balls, which then clips unto the belt, allowing trainers to carry their Pokémon with them. The belt itself is adjustable, which means that both kids and adults would be able to wear it quite comfortably. The belt itself can take quite a bit of punishment, which my daughters can attest to, although the release mechanism does feel a little bit flimsy.
Both Poké Balls are made from hard plastic. Each Poké Ball clicks open easily and clips onto the belt with no issues. Both balls are also well painted with no overlapping. This is especially impressive in the case of the Premier Ball, which is completely white with just a thin red line around its circumference.
The Pikachu figure that comes with the set is posed as if he is about to leap out of his Poké Ball, which is a nice touch. Again, as with the Poké Balls, the figure itself is very well painted and features a surprising amount of detail for such a small figure.
For those who are looking to become Pokémon trainers, this toy would make the perfect gift.
I have mentioned before that small collectable toys are currently all the rage with toy companies vying to see who will release the next big collectable toy range. Of course, Pokémon is a perfect fit for such a range as you have a huge amount of different Pokémon to include.
Along with the Clip ‘N’ Go set, I also received the 2-inch Pokémon Battle Figure range. These Pokémon, just as the Pikachu from the Clip ‘N’ Go set, are made to fit snugly into the Poké Balls. Each pack comes with two figures, allowing you to stage little Pokémon battles.
The range includes various Pokémon from the different generations, which means that there is enough variety to keep most fans happy. Personally, I was glad to see that the range included a Jigglypuff, who we all know is the best of the bunch.
These little Pokémon would be great for younger kids to play with as they are tough and can take quite a beating. They are also detailed enough and well-painted, which makes them perfect for keeping the older fans of the franchise company at the office on their desk or at home on top of a display shelf.
Lastly, I received the larger 4.5-inch Pokémon Battle Feature Figure, which, unlike the normal Pokémon Battle Figure range, doesn’t fit into a Poké Ball. The upside is that the Incineroar I received had an action feature, which activates when you pressed his legs together.
Again, the figure is well painted and has loads of little details. The fact that this range of figures don’t fit into Poké Balls might be off-putting to some but it’s a small price to pay for a cool action feature, which, of course, adds to the figures playability as it also has some articulation, unlike the smaller figures.
If you are a Pokémon fan, then these toys would be perfect for you. The Pokémon Clip ‘N’ Go Poké Ball Belt Set not only looks great, but it is also functional allowing you to store your 2-inch collectable figures.
The figures in turn (both the 2-inch and 4.5-inch) look the part and would stand up to the scrutiny of any dedicated fan. It is a shame that the larger figures don’t fit into the Poké Balls but it’s a small sacrifice to make for the articulation and action feature.
Overall, these toys would be perfect for fans of the Pokémon franchise.
