In addition to his upcoming zombie flick, Army of the Dead, Zack Snyder (Watchmen, 300, Justice League) is teaming up with Warner Bros. Animation director Jay Oliva (Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox) on a Norse mythology anime series for Netflix. Jay Oliva, who served as the storyboard artist for Snyder’s Man of Steel and Batman v Superman, will serve as showrunner and director.
The duo, who have had a longstanding creative partnership, will also write and produce the show together. Deborah Snyder and Wesley Coller will produce the series alongside Snyder through Stone Quarry Animation.
“Zack Snyder’s innovation in visual storytelling has pushed the industry forward and established him as one of the most distinctive filmmakers of his generation. We are beyond excited to partner with him and his exceptional team to bring the iconic characters and stories of Norse mythology to life in his inimitable style,” said John Derderian, head of Anime programming for Netflix.
Jay Oliva is currently working on Trese, a Manila-set Netflix anime series.
