Today, Microsoft showed off some of the games heading to their next-gen console, the Xbox Series X.
Although the world is still in the grip of the COVID-19 outbreak and many games conferences, such as E3, have been cancelled, Microsoft decided to do a streaming event to showcase all the games heading to their next-gen console.
Of course, the reveal, which had a decidedly dark undertone theme, was filled with all kinds of exciting new games, including the first glimpse of in-game footage from the next Assassin’s Creed game, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.
Below are just some of the Xbox Series X games that were shown:
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
With the next entry in the Assasin’s Creed franchise being announced earlier this week, we got to see our first glimpse of in-game footage, thanks to a brand new trailer. It was also confirmed that parts of Norway will feature during the first sections of the game, after which players will get to explore jolly old England and establish their own settlement, which will evolve as they progress.
Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2
With many of the current-gen games featuring zombies, it seems like next-gen will belong to those sharp-fanged vampires. The brand new trailer for Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 is surprisingly gore-filled and starts off with a rather disturbing scene.
As a newly created vampire, it is up to you to navigate the world of darkness and rise through the ranks of the vampire world. Naturally, you will have access to a slew of neat vampire powers to help you on your journey.
Scorn
Scorn is something of a strange beast. Inspired by the works of H.R. Giger, the game features a striking art style which combines the organic and the mechanical in an unsettling way.
The trailer showcases its fair share of grotesque visuals, which should please horror fans. The game will feature just as much puzzle solving as it will bloody combat. As players progress, they will unlock new skills and weapons, which hints at some light RPG mechanics being included in the game.
The Medium
A brand new horror game from the team behind the Blair Witch and Layers of Fear games, The Medium puts you in the shoes of, you guessed it, a medium. Players will need to navigate bother the spiritual and real-world as they set out on a mission to solve a mystery surrounding a child’s murder. The trailer sets up the haunting atmosphere the game seems to be going for perfectly.
The Ascent
The Ascent, a new co-op and single-player isometric action-RPG, takes place in a cyberpunk world where mega-corporations rule and the average person lives in relative squalor. The Ascent, a mega-corporation in charge of pretty much everything, has collapsed and you’ve been hired to find out what happened.
The game seems to be one of those that will be even more fun with friends. The co-op looks suitably bloody and chaotic.
Call of the Sea
Call of the Sea is a brand new first-person adventure puzzle game set in the 1930s and follows a woman called Norah on an expedition to find her lost husband. Her journey leads her to a strange idyllic island in the South Pacific which seems to hold loads of secrets for her to uncover. Visually, the game looks stunning with bright stylised graphics.
Second Extinction
All you needed to know about Second Extinction is that it is a first-person shooter that features dinosaurs. The game will see up to three players taking on a bunch of weirdly mutated dinosaurs who have taken over the world. It seems like teamwork will be of the utmost importance as waves upon waves of enemies attack you and your fellow players.
Chorus
Chorus is a new space shooter from the publisher behind games such as Saints Row and Dead Island. The game will weave a mature single-player focused narrative of redemption. Players will take control of ace pilot Nara who sets out on a journey to take on a relenting foe. Love space combat, then this looks like the game for you.
Dirt 5
The next entry in the Dirt series, Dirt 5, was shown during the Xbox Series X event and it looks gorgeous. As with previous games in the franchise, expect Dirt 5 to have all the rally action you could wish for.
