Todd Phillips’ Joker was always going to be something special. From the moment they announced Oscar-winner Joaquin Phoenix as the titular character, it was evident that the world was about to witness a new and important incarnation of DC’s Clown Prince of Crime.
Fans weren’t wrong. There is already a lot of Oscar buzz surrounding the film, with many praising Phoenix’s performance. We’ll never look at the Batman villain the same way again. That’s a promise the film’s creators have ensured. More than just being another comic book film, Joker seems to transcend the genre and offer a truly tragic and personal portrayal of a man losing hope in a failing society.

Failed comedian Arthur Fleck encounters violent thugs while wandering the streets of Gotham City dressed as a clown. Disregarded by society, Fleck begins a slow descent into madness as he transforms into the criminal mastermind known as The Joker.
