For nearly 25 years, Mignola and a host of celebrated writers and artists have chronicled the adventures of Hellboy facing his supposed destiny as Beast of the Apocalypse. Since his conception in 1994’s Hellboy: Seed of Destruction, the Right Hand of Doom has leapt off the pages of popular comics onto the big screen with Guillermo del Toro’s franchise and the small screen with the animated feature films. Now, Anung un Rama is set to make a big, red firey splash with Neil Marshall’s Hellboy, starring David Harbour as our titular hero.
While the previous posters showed the demon with the heart of gold in all his horned glory, this special illustrated poster shows Hellboy with his shaved down horns. Unlike the previous posters for the film, it also shows us the supporting cast, including the film’s villain (played by Milla Jovovich) and fellow B.P.R.D. members.
At the con, Harbour explained that the upcoming film will be closer to Mignola’s more horror-focused comics. “And I want to get to the score of Mike’s stuff, which is horror in a certain way, even existential horror. To me, it has more of a Mignola feel than a Guillermo del Toro feel. And both are great, but this is what me and Neil wanted to do.”
The new poster certainly highlights the film’s horror elements. Hellboy blazes into theatres on April 12, 2019.
