Wonder Woman is currently still at the box office, but that hasn’t stopped Warner from starting on the development of Wonder Woman 2. With that comes a host of new rumours that Patty Jenkins’ sequel will take place in the 1980s during the Cold War and that Chris Pine might return.
Screen Rant has reported that Wonder Woman 2 will take place in the 1980s, with Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman facing off against the Soviet Union. Furthermore, The Wrap has come out and confirmed it with their own sources too.
“According to production details Screen Rant has learned, the story of Wonder Woman 2 will be another historical adventure prior to the modern day DCEU. Set during the 1980s, the film will send Diana against the forces of Soviet Union in the closing days of the Cold War. The production team is expected to remain on board for the sequel, with confirmation that Geoff Johns is developing WonderWoman 2’s script with Jenkins.”
According to their Screen Rant, Wonder Woman 2 will also see the return of Chris Pine as Steve Trevor, which raises a few questions about what exactly happened in the climax of the film. DC Films president Geoff Johns recently also confirmed that he’s working on the story with Patty Jenkins.
Should all these rumours be true, we’ll definitely be in for another epic Wonder Woman film. Over the weekend, Wonder Woman officially passed Deadpool at the domestic box office, and the Merc with a Mouth took time to praise the latest DCEU entry:
