With analysts predicting that Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker movie will be a success, DC and Warner Bros. are developing another Elseworlds film with another iconic superhero villain. If the rumours are true, we might be getting a Ryan Gosling Lex Luthor film too.
In case you didn’t know, superhero movies are big business in Hollywood. So much so, that even bigger A list actors are getting in on the trend. That said, not every established actor can see themselves in colourful spandex and capes. Some actors are attracted to serious characters with multiple layers and a flawed worldview. It seems Warner Bros. is completely aware of this. Their remedy seems to be offering big stars one-shot films, which are not a part of any continuity, where they are able to explore the deeper motives of these complex villains.
It’s a smart move and a great way to allow fans to finally see their “heroes” in a new light.
The latest rumour from 4Chan, and a number of other sources online, claims that director Joe Wright, known for Darkest Hour and Hanna, will be developing a Lex Luthor film, without Superman. He’ll be directing from a script he co-wrote with Anthony McCarten, who wrote Bohemian Rhapsody and Theory of Everything.
As you can imagine, an actor like Ryan Gosling is probably more suited to play the role than Zack Snyder’s choice of Jesse Eisenberg. If the rumours prove to be true, we can look forward to an exciting new look into the psyche of Superman’s archnemesis.
Gee, I wonder what Gosling would like as a bald billionaire?
