The Marvel Cinematic Universe is no stranger to being front and centre of the internet’s rumour mill. So it’s not surprising that shortly after the studio wrapped Phase 3 with the release of Avengers: Endgame speculation and “leaks” surrounding the next batch of movies (Phase 4) started to swirl around social media.
It’s easy to get swept up in the fan-hype but here’s what we know for sure…
Marvel Studios have pulled off a herculean task of keeping viewers interested in the MCU with over 20 movies in the last 11 years. This is due to the careful planning, hard work and dedication of every creative mind that has worked on these films.
In a recent Reddit AMA, Kevin Feige gave fans a little insight into how the Marvel Cinematic Universe functions from a creative perspective. When asked how far in advance the MCU movies are planned Feige said, “We usually work with a specific 5-year plan at any given point but often have a general plan that extends much, much further.”
Feige has previously stated that Phase 4 will run between 2020 and 2024. The fact that these films have already been planned is the main reason why the X-Men and other newly acquired superheroes will not appear in the MCU any time soon.
Following Disney’s merger with Fox, the studio shared an updated release schedule for the next eight Marvel movies. Unfortunately, the official schedule had every Marvel movie is listed as “Untitled Marvel”, so until Spider-Man: Far From Home is released it’s unlikely that we will get any more concrete information.
Here are the dates for the next Eight Marvel movies…
- May 1, 2020
- November 6, 2020
- February 12, 2021
- May 7, 2021
- November 5, 2021
- February 18, 2022
- May 6, 2022
- July 29, 2022
While nothing has been made official regarding movie titles, rumours suggest that a Black Widow prequel, a movie featuring Shang-Chi, an Eternals movie, and sequels to Doctor Strange, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Ant-Man and Guardians of the Galaxy are already in various stages of production.
And after hitting the reset button on the team that made up the Avengers in Phase 3, fans probably won’t have to wait too long before Marvel assembles a new team for the next Avengers movie. Rumours and reports theorise that July 29, 2022, will be the release date for Avengers 5.
Some claim that the new incarnation of the Avengers will include Kate Bishop’s Hawkeye (or perhaps Clint’s daughter Lila), Hulkling, Iron Lad, Patriot, Wiccan, Stature and Vision (not Paul Bettany’s version). While others suggest that Avengers 5 will most likely focus on the current MCU line-up like Captain Marvel, the new Captain America, Professor Hulk, Spider-Man, Black Panther, Ant-Man and Doctor Strange.
Whatever the case may be it’s clear that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has enough storytelling material to keep fans coming back for more well into the future.
