DC Comics has just announced a new sequel to Watchmen, the bestselling graphic novel of all time. Rorschach will be a 12-issue maxiseries from creators Tom King and Jorge Fornés, who explore the mythic qualities of one of the most compelling characters from the original series.
The new Rorschach series is set 35 years after Ozymandias was exposed for dropping a giant telepathic squid on New York City, killing thousands and ending the public’s trust in heroes. The Minutemen are nothing more than a memory. But Rorschach has become a cultural icon since Dr Manhattan turned him to dust – because while he may have spoken truth, Rorschach wasn’t a hero.
When Rorschach reappears as part of a pair of assassins trying to kill the first candidate to oppose President Robert Redford in decades, everything changes.
A lone detective takes on the task of unravelling the mystery, going back in time to uncover the identities and motives of the would-be killers. His quest for the truth takes him deep into a dark conspiracy of alien invasions, disgraced do-gooders, and mystical visions.
Speaking about comic books launch, Tom King said…
“Like the HBO Watchmen show and very much like the original ’86 Watchmen, this is a very political work. It’s an angry work. We’re so angry all the time now. We have to do something with that anger. It’s called Rorschach not because of the character Rorschach, but because what you see in these characters tells you more about yourself than about them.”
The first book in the Rorschach series will be available on October 13, 2020, and will retail for only $4.99.
