CBS’ The Equalizer TV series loses actor Denzel Washington in favour of American rap pioneer turned actress Queen Latifah.
A 30-second teaser of the crime-drama reboot released on Twitter shows us what to expect when the series arrives in February.

As shown in the The Equalizer trailer, Queen Latifah will play Robyn McCall — described as “an enigmatic figure who uses her extensive skills to help those with nowhere else to turn.”
Essentially, the show will follow the ass-kicking retired CIA agent and single mother as she breaks down doors and beats up baddies in order to protect and defend those who can’t — not unlike the character in the popular film franchise.
Washington first appeared as Robert McCall in the 2014 film and then again in its 2018 sequel.
While Taken didn’t translate well to the small screen without Liam Neeson, CBS is bravely willing to take a gamble with Queen Latifah (who also serves as co-creator and an executive producer for the show) replacing Denzel Washington as the lead hero in the action-packed TV series. Sure, she has the acting chops to pull it off but it will be interesting to see the fan’s reactions to the new character after the release of the first episode.
I’m not sure if this means we won’t see Denzel playing the kick-ass Robert McCall in another Equalizer sequel — it would be disappointing if he didn’t make a third film (even if he is getting a little older). Still, Latifah has a lot to live up to.
