Pop megastar Rihanna has debuted “Sledgehammer”, a song from Star Trek Beyond. In a new featurette, Rihanna talks Star Trek, how she was introduced to it and her love for the characters.
To be honest, Sledgehammer probably sounds more like a Bond theme song than a Star Trek song. But we won’t fault Rihanna for it. The song does have some charm.
“It just took me one episode to fall in love with this other world that I couldn’t understand but I felt I could relate to. You always felt emotionally connected to the characters… I was very very honoured to be a part of this film,” the singer explains. “This is something that’s been a part of me since my childhood. It’s never left me.”
Directed by Floria Sigismondi, the music video features Rihanna singing the track on an alien planet. The iconic Starship Enterprise makes an appearance, too.
