Focus Features has revealed a new trailer for acclaimed director Juan Antonio Bayona’s thrilling fantasy film A Monster Calls, starring Liam Neeson as a friendly giant monster.
Children’s movies with giants seem like a common theme in 2016. First Steven Spielberg’s BFG gave us the feels and now A Monster Calls is looking at doing the same. The film also stars Toby Kebbell, Sigourney Weaver and Geraldine Chaplin. Patrick Ness adapted the screenplay from his own novel.
“Everyone facing big things in their life feels helpless like a kid,” Bayona says. “It’s very interesting when you tell the story through the eyes of a young boy who’s turning into a man. Everyday life doesn’t work as a fairy tale, and every kid should learn that as they grow up.”
A visually spectacular drama from acclaimed director Juan Antonio Bayona (“The Impossible”), based on the award-winning children’s fantasy novel. 12-year-old Conor (Lewis MacDougall) attempts to deal with his mother’s (Felicity Jones) illness and the bullying of his classmates by escaping into a fantastical world of monsters and fairy tales that explore courage, loss, and faith.
A Monster Calls opens in theaters on October 14.
