In a statement Ubisoft CEO, Yves Guillemot indicated that Watch Dogs 2 would have a “new tone” that would differ from the previous game. Unfortunately, he did not expand on what the “new tone” would be or how the Watch Dogs 2 would differ from its predecessor.
Guillemot made the statement during a earnings call (as transcribed by Gamespot), and also pointed out that the game would feature new “innovative” gameplay. Whether this is just marketing jargon being thrown around, or if the game will truly be different to its predecessor is yet to be seen.
Recently a leak seemed to indicate that Watch Dogs 2 might have a different protagonist all together, this along with a statement from the studio a while back that they were taking risks with the new game would indicate that Guillemot’s statement might ring true.
I am all for studios innovating in sequels as log as they are able to deliver on their promises.
