There have been a few LEGO movies. We’ve had movies based on the popular Trolls toys. There are talks about a Hotwheels film, a Monopoly film, a Barbie movie (with actress Margot Robbie attached to star) and even a Funko! movie franchise. Now, Mattel and MGM are developing a movie based on the iconic View-Master toy. Have these toy companies gone too far? Did anybody ask for more movies based on popular toys?
While there is yet to be any writers or directors associated with the project and there is no release date set as yet, it has been revealed that the movie will be live-action. How and what the movie will be about (or how it will incorporate the popular kid’s toy) remains a mystery.
The View-Master is a stereoscope toy that has been around for over 75 years. Kids from the ’80s and ’90s should be familiar with the device.
“View-Master was the first device that allowed families all over the world to escape their reality and take them places they never thought they could go. We couldn’t be more excited to partner with Mattel to create a family adventure integrating the old school turn and click stereotypic device with the modern world of virtual reality,” said Jonathan Glickman, MGM’s President, Motion Picture Group.
Additional information about the View-Master project should be revealed in the coming months.
