With September 2017 already upon us and new games being released almost on a weekly basis, I have decided to make a list of some of the games that will be releasing this month. From a highly anticipated first-person shooter MMO to a 1930’s inspired indie game, September 2017 promises to be one amazing month for gamers.
Knack – Second Time Is The Charm?
With the original Knack releasing alongside the PlayStation 4, many had hoped that the game would not only be a fun platformer but would also show off what Sony’s new console would be capable of. With an interesting premise and cutscenes reminiscent of Pixar films, Knack looked like it had everything a great game needed. Unfortunately, it wasn’t very well received and the title drifted into obscurity, that is until a sequel was announced. With an updated combat system, better-implemented co-op and a host of new improvements, will Knack 2 make up for the original’s shortcomings and will the game be able to redeem its predecessor?
Destiny 2 – Guardians Gear Up
Initially released to luke-warm reviews, Destiny quickly grew into the much-loved giant it is today. With so many having spent hours playing the original, it is no surprise that Destiny 2 is one of this year’s most anticipated games. With a revamped weapon and class system, as well as being more “lone wolf” friendly, Destiny 2 is set to surprise newcomers and welcome old friends into its warm embrace. From what has been shown, it seems the sequel will have everything that made the original so loved and build on that foundation, making it more accessible to newcomers without alienating the existing fan base. Guardians are you ready?
LEGO Worlds – Build Your World
The game that lets you build anything that you can imagine brick by brick is heading to the Nintendo Switch. The LEGO sandbox game developed by Traveller’s Tales is everything most avid LEGO fans would want. Being only limited by your imagination, LEGO Worlds is your canvas, letting you create whatever your brick-filled heart desires.
PES 2018 – For The Fans
With enhanced visuals and mechanics, PES 2018 is set to give players a truly authentic experience. The soccer simulation king hasn’t just received a visual overhaul but introduces new modes and features as it takes on the football giant FIFA. With the introduction of all these new elements, PES 18 is set to give football players the most realistic football experience yet.
Dishonored: Death of the Outsider – Power To Change The World
A standalone expansion to the critically lauded Dishonored 2, Dishonored: Death of the Outsider sees players taking on the role of Billie Lurk as they delve into the mysterious Outsider’s past. Instead of receiving her powers from the Outsider, Billie will gain her abilities from artifacts and gadgets she acquires. Will Billie have what it takes to eventually end the life of the Outsider or will she fail miserably? All we know is that if it builds on the same mechanics as the game’s that came before we’ll have a great time trying to assassinate him.
NBA 2K18 – Slam Dunk
As with previous entries in the franchise, NBA 2K18 strives to once again bring players the most realistic depiction of the NBA. The game not only boasts a slew of new and improved features but also adds a few new elements into the mix. NBA 2K18 sees Legacy modes making a return. The most impressive development is that the MyGM mode will now feature a complete story. The game will also introduce a completely new social mode, called Neighbourhoods, which will allow players to interact with other players and customise their character. Let’s hope it all pays off.
Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite – Heroes Assemble
It’s time once again for the heroes from the Capcom and Marvel universes to join forces as they try to stop a rising evil. This time around Capcom is promising a more focused and worthwhile story as player take on the evil Ultron Sigma (a fused version of the Marvel villain Ultron and Capcom villain Sigma). With the game promising some new and familiar faces (no X-men unfortunately) and improved mechanics, it seems Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite might be what fans were hoping for.
Pokken Tournament DX – I Choose You
Few things in life are as fun as pitting two creatures tighter in a battle to see who will be victorious. Pokken Tournament DX is a fighting game that sees players taking control of Pokémon as they fight to see who is the best out there. The game lets players choose from over 20 different Pokémon each with their own unique abilities and fighting styles. It might not be the Pokémon fighting game many had hoped for, but it seems like Nintendo might have another winner on its hands, especially since makes use of the Switch various multiplayer capabilities.
Project Cars 2 – Rev It Up
Are you ready to race? Project Cars 2 seems set to build upon everything you loved from the first game and make it bigger and better. The game will give players a choice of over 170 cars to choose from. How will you ever be able to choose? It also boasts some breathtakingly beautiful visuals and new in depth dynamic weather system to keep racers on their toes. Project Cars 2 will be taking things off road for the first time as players get to partake in some rally races.
The LEGO Ninjago Movie Video Game – Everybody Is Kung-Fu Fighting
The upcoming movie based on the franchise sure looks like loads of fun. Keeping this in mind, it was inevitable that a game based on the movie (which is based on the LEGO toys) would be heading to consoles. Taking its cue from the movie, in The LEGO Ninjago Movie Video Game players will get the chance to play as their favourite ninja’s as they kick, climb and punch their way to victory and defend their home from the evil Lord Garmadon.
Total War: Warhammer II – Waaaaaaaghhh!
After the success of the original Total War: Warhammer, it was only a matter of time before a sequel was announced. Introducing four new playable races and a more narrative focused campaign, Total War: Warhammer II is expanding on what made the first game so much fun while still staying true to the source material. Each race will give players a different experience as each has their own unique abilities and personality. Let’s get ready for Waaaaaghhh!
Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 – Over 9000
Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 is heading to the Switch. In the follow up to Dragonball Xenoverse, players will get to explore a new hub world called Conton City. Fans of the series will also be happy to see that character customisation will be making a return. There will also be many familiar faces, both good and evil.
FIFA 18 – Goaaaal!
It’s once again time for another FIFA game to release. This time around the game promises more fluid, natural and realistic gameplay, along with a new animation system that sees the ball reacting in a more realistic fashion. FIFA’s story mode, The Journey, will be making a return and will see Alex Hunter making his return. Career Mode has also received some welcome updates bringing in some elements from The Journey and receiving a UI overhaul. Will FIFA still reign king?
Cuphead – Finally!
After years of waiting, waiting and even more waiting, excited fans will finally get a chance to play Cuphead. This 1930’s cartoon influenced side-scroller not only looks good but has some hardcore gameplay to match. This is a game that has been on many most wanted list and, at last, we’ll get a chance to play this gorgeous, yet truly challenging game.
