It’s finally here, the first trailer for the new (not staring Angelina Jolie) Tomb Raider movie, and it takes quite a bit more than just inspiration from the 2013 game.
The good folks at IGN have put together a side-by-side comparison of the trailer for the 2013 Tomb Raider game and the trailer for the new movie. If you thought that you were having a bad case of deja-vu you would be completely correct as the trailers almost perfectly mimic each other. It’s great to see that the film is paying homage to the game and the franchise that came before.
The movie will follow 21-year-old Lara Croft (played by Alica Vikander) as she sets out on a quest to find the fictional lost island of Yamatai. As one would expect, things go terribly wrong as Lara finds herself shipwrecked on the mysterious island. Its survival of the fittest as Lara has to contend with a group of bad guys called Trinity but the local wildlife and elements as well. The trailer features some familiar bow and arrow action as well as the ever-popular mountaineering axe.
While I’m cautiously optimistic about the film, I truly hope it doesn’t tarnish the great memories I have of playing the amazing 2013 game.
Tomb Raider is set for release in March 2018 and stars Dominic West as Lara’s father, Walton Goggins as the villain and Daniel Wu as the ship’s captain.
