It’s official, Tom Hardy will play Venom in the upcoming Spider-Man spin-off film. Ruben Fleischer will direct the film, which now has an Oct. 5, 2018, release date.
Oscar-nominator actor Tom Hardy, who is most famously known for playing Bane in The Dark Knight Rises and Max in Mad Max: Fury Road, has found himself at the forefront of another comic book lead. He will play anti-hero/Spider-Man villain, Venom, in a film that is set to usher in Sony’s Marvel universe, which includes a host of other Spider-Man related characters.
Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are producing along with Amy Pascal. Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer will helm the film from a script written by Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner (The Amazing Spider-Man 2).
Apparently, Hardy is a big fan of the character and even posed for a photo wearing a Venom T-shirt.
