The Top Gun: Maverick trailer landed at San Diego Comic-Con yesterday, giving us a first look at the upcoming sequel starring Tom Cruise who reprises his famous role of Pete “Maverick” Mitchell from the 1986 original. That’s 34 years later.
The first trailer gives us a glimpse of some of the high-octane action that will feature in the film, which focuses on Maverick, now a flight instructor, guiding the son of Goose to be a fighter pilot.
Nostalgia is very big at the moment and of course there are plenty of callbacks to the original film in the trailer. It’s everything you’ll remember about Top Gun: fast motorcycles, volleyball and flying fighter jets.
“I certainly want to recreate the experience of that [first] movie, which gives you a front-seat into the world of naval aviation and what it’s like to be in a fighter jet,” said director Joseph Kosinski.
