Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen have been cast as Timon and Pumbaa in Disney’s live-action adaptation of Jon Favreau’s The Lion King.
In the original 1994 film, Timon and Pumbaa were the hilarious friends, a meerkat and a warthog originally voiced by Nathan Lane and Ernie Sabella, who look after Simba after he flees. The pair originally taught Simba their popular motto in a song, Hakuna Matata.
Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen will join a voice cast that already includes Donald Glover as Simba and James Earl Jones, who is returning to voice Mufasa.
After the success of Disney’s live-action version of The Jungle Book (which grossed $966 million worldwide), Jon Favreau was selected to bring another classic animated film to life. The news that Disney was planning to re-imagine The Lion King was met with a lot of scepticism from fans of the original animated tale.
