After months of teasers, HBO finally released the first trailer for their upcoming Watchmen TV Series, which will be loosely based on Alan Moore’s classic DC graphic novel, at San Diego Comic-Con 2019. And, by golly, Damon Lindelof’s show looks amazing!
The trailer gives us a look at some of Watchmen’s most beloved vigilante heroes, including Rorschach. While the first teaser gave us a look at characters played by Regina King, Don Johnson, and Jeremy Irons, the new 3-minute video gives us footage with references to Dr. Manhattan, an alternate United States and a deeper look into the series’ story.
Unlike Zack Snyder’s 2009 feature-film version, the series won’t follow the story from the comics and will instead be an original story within that world. “Those original twelve issues are our Old Testament. When the New Testament came along it did not erase what came before it. Creation. The Garden of Eden. Abraham and Isaac. The Flood. It all happened. And so it will be with Watchmen. The Comedian died. Dan and Laurie fell in love. Ozymandias saved the world and Dr. Manhattan left it just after blowing Rorschach to pieces in the bitter cold of Antarctica,” said Lindelof.
The cast includes Regina King, Jeremy Irons, Don Johnson, Jean Smart, Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gossett Jr., Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Hong Chau, Andrew Howard, Tom Mison, Frances Fisher, Jacob Ming-Trent, Sara Vickers, Dylan Schombing, and James Wolk.
So excited for this. As a fan of both the graphic novel and the movie adaptation, my hype levels are through the roof.
