Larian Studios released a new cinematic trailer for their highly anticipated Baldur’s Gate 3. The game will harken back to the originals in both style and gameplay, albeit with a shiny new coat of paint and some improved mechanics.
The trailer features one of the game’s iconic Mind Flayers as it causes all kinds of havoc in its desire to abduct more hosts for its little Mind Flayer parasites. That is until some a few dragon-riding heroes appear on the scene dead-set on stopping the unholy creature.
Players will still get to choose their class, race and basically build an original character. The game’s narrative will see you, the hero, being infected with a Mind Flayer parasite, which has the unfortunate side-effect of slowly turning you into a Cthulhu-esque creature called a Mind Flayer.
With the infection comes a host of powerful abilities and as your character becomes more and more corrupted their power grows. Will you give in to the power and corruption or will you resist it?
Of course, this wouldn’t be a Baldur’s Gate game if it didn’t include companions and, just as in previous games, players will be able to form bonds with them as they learn to trust you.
The game will also include online multiplayer, which will allow you to team up with up to three of your friends letting you work together to form the perfect strategies in each unique situation. Combat will also be a lot more fluid and strategic than in previous iterations, rewarding those that use cunning and strategy.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is expected to release later this year. Hopefully, we will see it appearing on next-gen consoles along with its PC release.
