Daedalic Entertainment has given us a glimpse of their upcoming The Lord of the Rings: Gollum game with a short teaser trailer.
When The Lord of the Rings: Gollum game was first announced, it wasn’t clear exactly what genre the game will be. Thankfully, the new trailer gives us more information.
Players will take control of the titular “my precious” spewing character, Gollum, and make decisions that will not only affect the world but the Middle-earth creature as well.
Many of the decisions will be aligned with one of Gollum’s character personas as you fight for control over Sméagol.
As mentioned by lead narrative designer Tilman Schanen, you’ll either be playing as Sméagol or Gollum as the dominant persona, which will even affect the way the character moves.
“You always either play as Smeagol or as Gollum as the ‘dominant’ persona and that can influence animations, soundscapes, certain gameplay situations, and in-game dialogue.”
The gameplay will be mostly stealth driven, as one can expect. Gollum isn’t much of a fighter and would rather skip a head-on confrontation, preferring to rather strike from the shadows. As you can guess, any type of combat will have consequences and if handled incorrectly could mean the end of the beloved villain. Players will have to continually weigh up the risk and rewards before leaping into any sort of combat in The Lord of the Rings: Gollum.
Judging by the short trailer and details for the game, which is said to fit alongside the books, it sounds like the developers might be on the right path.
