Over a decade ago, George Miller had plans to make a Justice League film called Justice League Mortal. Sadly, that film was cancelled while the Mad Max director was late into pre-production. Now, years later, we finally get to see what the Superman, Batman and Flash suits would have looked like. And they are ugly.
Instagrammer Skull101ify has provided the first look at the unused designs by Academy Award-winning production company Weta Workshop. The images show the planned costume for D.J. Cutrona’s Superman, as well as a costume for Armie Hammer’s Batman and a concept sketch of Adam Brody’s Flash.
The Batman cowl is easily one of the worst designs I’ve seen for the Dark Knight so far. It’s clear that the production was trying to do something different, but it just comes across as goofy.
It’s also interesting to note that Miller’s Superman would have forgone the classic red underwear in favour of blue ones instead.
The Flash costume, however, seems to be more comic book accurate than the DCEU’s current suit.
Either way, Justice League Mortal could have turned into something very different and could possibly have been a better film that Joss Whedon’s Justice League.
