Netflix has released the first images, a logo and a poster of their upcoming The Witcher series, which is coming later this year, showing off more of Henry Cavill as Geralt, along with two other characters; Yennefer (Anya Chalotra), and Ciri (Freya Allan). The White Wolf, The Swallow and The Obsidian Star.
The first wave of images shows Geralt sporting one sword instead of two. The character is known for carrying two swords, one made of steel for slaying monsters, and the other made of iron; particularly for killing humans.
Medallions have always played an integral role in the franchise, both in Andrzej Sapkowski’s books and CD Projekt Red’s games. Judging from these images, it appears they may be significant in the Netflix series as well.
The Witcher‘s showrunner, Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, was one of the producers behind Netflix’s cancelled Daredevil series.
It is an adaptation of the books, rather than the games. That said, many gaming fans are going to be watching because they’ve enjoyed CD Projekt Red’s trilogy.
Based on the best-selling fantasy series of books, The Witcher is an epic tale of fate and family. Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together.
