Roll up the sleeves and put up ’em dukes, because Equalizer 3: The Final Chapter strikes into theatres on September 1, 2023. This latest instalment features director Antoine Fuqua and Denzel Washington teaming up once again for the vigilante, all-action affair centred on retired Marine and former DIA Robert McCall who throws down when bad guys try to put him or others down. Joining them on this ride is Dakota Fanning, who plays Emma Collins in the movie.

Equalizer 3: The Final Chapter signals another important milestone, as Washington and Fanning share the screen again after starring in 2004’s Man on Fire. The Tony Scott-directed action thriller made over $130 million at the global box office, while also becoming a staple of the genre in the years after its release. Undoubtedly, the chemistry between Washington and Fanning aided the success of the film, so everyone will be hoping they bring the same flair to their latest project.
How Man on Fire helped Dakota Fanning’s casting in Equalizer 3: The Final Chapter
After almost 20 years since they last worked together, Denzel Washington and Dakota Fanning are ready to rumble as a dynamic duo again. Fanning’s casting isn’t simply coincidental, though, as Antoine Fuqua revealed to The Beard and the Bald podcast how the stars’ previous film helped secure her a part in Equalizer 3: The Final Chapter.
The director explained how he and Washington were discussing the late Tony Scott when the conversation turned to Man on Fire and Fanning. “I was, ‘How old is Dakota now?'” Fuqua said. “And we were like, ‘Oh yeah, she’s about the right age [for the role in The Equalizer 3],’ and I said, ‘That would be cool to bring her back.’ So, that’s how it sort of happened, and then I met with her, and I loved her as soon as I walked in the room and met her. I mean, she’s a great actress, but you meet people. She’s incredible.”
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Fanning expressed her joy at working with Washington again. However, she added they have stayed in touch over the years anyway, since she is good friends with one of his daughters.

Equalizer 3: The Final Chapter marks the last time Denzel Washington will play Robert McCall
Bittersweet sentiment surrounds Equalizer 3: The Final Chapter. While it’s always welcome to see Robert McCall return and kick some tail on screen, it’s also set to be the last time that Denzel Washington portrays the character.
Speaking to Empire, Washington said, “I don’t want to say [Robert has] found happiness, and I don’t want to give it all away, but he meets someone lovely, he’s in a lovely town and he seems to be at peace. That seems to be a good place to stop.”
The Academy Award-winning actor added how he never expected The Equalizer to turn into a trilogy, but now this is the right time to end the story. Fuqua also agreed, believing The Equalizer 3 to be the last dance as an action hero. Fans may be devastated to read the news, but all good things must come to an end, and Robert is unlikely to go out without a big fight.
