Sony announced that a new Tetris game from Rez creator Tetsuya Mizuguchi, called Tetris Effect, will be heading to the PlayStation 4 and PSVR.
Tetris Effect will combine music, sight and sound to create a Tetris game unlike any we’ve seen so far. While the Tetris formula has come a long way and has gone through various iterations, the new game will offer players a “magical feeling of total immersion by surrounding you with fantastic, fully three-dimensional worlds that react and evolve based on how you play”.
There will be over 30 stages to keep players busy including ones set underwater and in space.
What is most fascinating about the announcement is that it will include PSVR support, with the developer Enhance Games saying that the VR version will offer a fully immersive 3D experience. How exactly Enhance Games will pull this off we have no idea, although we have little doubt that the studio behind the VR game Rez Infinite will be able to deliver on their promises. Expect to see more of this game at E3 2018.
The announcement is the first of a slew of planned pre-E3 2018 announcements from Sony.
