A few weeks ago, theatres across the globe played host to the crime action film Sound of Freedom. There has been a lot of movement behind the scenes when it comes to the film, which has drawn a mixed array of reviews as a result. Having reached South African theatres as well, Ster-Kinekor and local distributors Gravel Road Distribution Group have crafted a unique offering for moviegoers.
Those looking to catch the movie in theatres can still do so this week. As part of the film’s promotions, those eager to watch can do so FOR FREE, thanks to the SK and Gravel Road partnership.

The offer allows and encourages as many people as possible to watch the film. In order to claim your free ticket, you’ll need to follow a different process in contrast to the standard SK booking system.
Users will need to visit the Angel Studios website and claim their free tickets at one of the special venues showcasing the film in the country.
Once you’ve confirmed your seats, you’ll receive a unique code per person allocated. This code can then be used as a voucher when booking your ticket at local Ster-Kinekor cinemas.
You’ll need to move quickly, however, as the promotion ends on 15 September 2023.

Sound of Freedom Plot and Controversy
The film itself deals with the harrowing topic of human trafficking. Specifically, the film involves a former US government agent, Timothy Ballard (Jim Caviezel), who embarks on a mission to rescue children in Colombia. These children have been victims of child sex trafficking linked to high-ranking political figures in the US and across the world.
Additionally, the plot also revolves around the real-world Operation Underground Railroad. The organisation is an anti-sex trafficking organisation that is still in operation today.
Although the topic isn’t controversial on its own, the insinuations that have spawned from the film tie into the conspiracies that have plagued plenty of US politics of late. The topic has also been closely linked to many QAnon leaders and groups, who have lauded the film’s tie-in with their real-world conspiracies.
That being said, the over-arching story is based on true events, where the Operation Underground Railroad led the charge to rescue sex-trafficked children in Colombia. The film serves as a heart-breaking reminder as to the harsh realities of the world we live in, emphasising the importance of keeping your children safe.
Sound of Freedom has been directed and co-written by Alejandro Monteverde and produced by Eduardo Verástegui, who also stars in the film.
