Nintendo has revealed that SteamWorld Dig 2, the sequel tho the much lauded 2013 action-adventure platformer, will be heading to their new console, the Nintendo Switch.
SteamWorld Dig 2 will reintroduce players to Dorothy, the robotic merchant from the first game, who will now be a playable character. After searching for Rusty, the first game’s protagonist, Dorothy is once again forced to head underground. The sequel seems to follow the same recipe from the first game quite closely. The team decided to focus on expanding the game rather than recreate it, seeing as the main complaint about the original was that it was too short. With a more non-linear underworld, SteamWorld Dig 2 seems to be taking a few cues from Metroidvania.
“Although it was very well received,” explains Image & Form CEO, Brjann Sigurgeirsson, “we knew there was more to SteamWorld Dig than we managed back in 2013. Ironically, it was a bit frustrating to see all those great reviews when we’d had so much more planned for it initially. So I think we knew we’d revisit the Dig era rather sooner than later.”
With it’s updated visuals and open-world approach, I can’t wait to head back down underground and find out what riches awaits.
