Orion Pictures have announced that Mark Hamill, known for portraying one of the most iconic characters in film, including Luke Skywalker and DC’s Joker, has been cast as the voice of Chucky in the upcoming Child’s Play reboot, a contemporary re-imagining of the 1988 horror classic. Of course, the news was greeted warmly by the audience at the film’s WonderCon panel over the weekend.
“We feel incredibly lucky to have an icon creating a new take on an iconic character,” said Katzenberg. “Mark is a gifted actor and celebrated vocal performer, and he’s approached this challenge with incredible energy and commitment.”
As the first trailer starring Aubrey Plaza, Brian Tyree Henry, and Gabriel Bateman shows, the evil doll, now a smart toy, has been enhanced with much better technology and AI, giving Lars Klevberg’s Child’s Play remake a new horror twist.
“Child’s Play was, and is, one of my all-time horror movies and it was one of my introductions to horror,” director Lars Klevberg told EW last year. “I got the script [for the remake] and it was really really good, and I knew it was from the producers from It, and I jumped in immediately.”
