It feels like an eternity since EA revealed their next single player focused Star Wars game, Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order. Fans have been hoping that this would be the Star Wars game they’ve been asking for, for what seems like forever. Finally, during the Star Wars Celebration, EA finally revealed the game’s first story trailer as well as some new details about the game.
Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order will see players taking on the role of Cal Kestis as he tries to survive after the events of Revenge of the Sith. The Empire is growing stronger and free will has become something that many have been forced to leave behind. Cal is one of the last surviving Jedi Padawans, basically a Jedi apprentice, after the massacre caused by Order 66 which saw Jedi being hunted down as traitors. Cal is forced to try and complete his Jedi training by himself while staying ahead of the Empire and its deadly Inquisitors who continue to hunt down the last remaining Jedi.
It’s a period in Star Wars lore that proved very dangerous for the Jedi and anyone who associated themselves with the order, making it an interesting and a more darker period to explore. Of course, Cal will be making quite a few friends over the course of his adventure and fans will definitely see a few familiar faces making an appearance.
It’s encouraging to see that after what many fans believed was the misuse of the Star Wars license, EA is finally doing it justice and giving fans what they have been asking for. As Lucasfilm’s Steve Blank commented when developer Respawn pitched their idea for a single player Star Wars game to them, he immediately knew this was what fans were asking for.
“When Respawn approached us with the idea for this game, we were immediately supportive. A single player, story-driven title in the Star Wars universe was exactly what we were looking for, and we know the fans have been eager for one, as well. Focusing on Cal stepping back into the shoes of a Jedi post Order 66 opens up a lot of gameplay opportunities and rich story threads to develop for this new character and his backstory.”
Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order is set to release on the 15th of November 2019 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
November 2019 can’t come soon enough. Let’s just hope that the game stays true to the licence and that no microtransactions mysteriously makes it into the final game.
