Following a brief hiatus from the South African market, Sony has reintroduced its TV range in-country. At an event held at Maslow Hotel, Sandton, the company launched its latest Sony Bravia XR range.
Sony has introduced a new range of Bravia TVs. These have been equipped with the latest in-house Cognitive Processor XR chipsets. Included in the range is the MASTER Series XR OLED A80J, as well as the X90J Full-Array LED TVs.

The new XR processors include new AI technologies, which go beyond conventional algorithms. It replicates the way in which humans see and hear content. The processor divides the screen into various zones, which can then detect the focal point of the image.
Additionally, the Cognitive Processor XR also analyses the sound position, ensuring that the sound is more precise on the screen. It also upscale the audio from standard to 3D surround sound. This provides additional realism with an immersive soundscape experience.
Over the period of playback, it learns, analyses and understands all the data presented, which then intelligently optimises every pixel, frame and scene. This, then, provides the most lifelike image representation as well as sound quality.
Alongside the new XR processors, the new Sony Bravia XR range also doubles as a Google TV. This means it offers a brand-new entertainment experience. Here, it brings together your favourite movies, shows, live TV and a line-up of apps and subscriptions designed to enhance the immersive visual media experience.
But this isn’t just any Google TV. It is also Netflix Calibrated Mode certified, meant to allow users to enjoy Netflix Originals content to produce the same picture quality on TV as on a studio evaluation master.
The new Sony Bravia XR TV range comes with a host of features. It includes HDMI 2.1 as well as e-ARC compatibility, including 4K at 120FPS, Variable Refresh Rate, Auto Low Latency Mode, as well as supporting higher resolutions and frame rates. These TVs are certified for Sony PS5 exclusive features, including Auto HDR Tone Mapping and Auto Genre Picture Mode. This makes it perfect for PlayStation 5 gaming.
The Sony Bravia XR TVs are currently available in-store around the country. The range will also be available online in the coming months.
