Out of nowhere, Sony PlayStation has announced a new back button attachment for the DualShock 4.
The PlayStation Dualshock 4 back button attachment adds two new buttons to your standard DualShock 4. What makes these paddle-style buttons so special is that they can be fully customised.
The attachment connects to your standard DualShock 4, via the 3.5mm headphone jack, and securely clips into place with the two paddles sitting snugly on the back.
The attachment also includes a fancy circular OLED display that lets you program the two buttons and displays real-time information of the button assignments. You’ll be able to store up to three profiles and quickly switch between them with a touch of the screen.
The attachment has its own headphone jack, so that you are still able to plug your headphone into your DualShock controller, and is compatible with PSVR.
It’s a very interesting product and one that allows players who don’t want to fork out loads of cash for “Pro” controllers to still have some degree of customisation. Strangely, Sony hasn’t built their own first-party pro controller, unlike Microsoft, but this new attachment effectively changes your standard DualShock 4 into one.
The attachment is set to hit store shelves next month in the United States and will retail for $29.99, after which it will release in the UK on the 14th of February. Meaning, it will probably arrive in South Africa after that.
Will this attachment come standard with the PlayStation 5? We’ll have to wait and see.
