When VR first started becoming mainstream, some of the first questions gamers asked was whether or not they would be able to wield a lightsaber and how long it would take before they can join the Star Trek crew. CBS Interactive and Sandbox VR have teamed up to make one of those questions a reality with Star Trek: Discovery Away Missions.
Star Trek: Discovery Away Missions will allow gamers to team up with up to six friends to explore the world of the critically acclaimed TV series. As expected, you and your team will have access to your own phasers and tricorders and will even get to explore the holodeck.
The first mission is around 30 minutes long. Players are tasked with investigating a strange distress signal from a lost spaceship.
Although the game will have some combat sections, it will mainly be focused on collective problem solving, which is also a huge part of the series. Working as a team becomes more important than shooting anything that moves.
Discovery Away Missions will use full-motion body capture to help immerse the players fully into the experience.
Of course, this is not the first Star Trek VR experience. Star Trek Bridge Crew also allowed players to take command of a spaceship and work together with friends in exploring the reaches of space.
Are you ready to grab your team and set foot where no man or woman has set foot before?
