EA has announced that the sequel to the popular Star Wars: Battlefront game would be coming out next year.
According to EA, the sequel will be “bigger and better” and will use the new movies as inspiration rather than the “historical movies” that feature in the current Star Wars: Battlefront game.
It seems we are entering the era of Star Wars games as another game being developed by Visceral and Motive would most likely release in 2018, the game has yet to receive a title. According to EA, they plan to release at least one Star Wars game each year “over the next 3 to 4 years”. It seems that like Disney (who are releasing one movie per year until 2019), EA is shooting for one game per year too. Additionally, EA and Respawn just announced that they are working on another game in the Star Wars universe.
Even though Star Wars: Battlefront was praised for its handling of the source material, including visuals and audio, the game was criticized for not having enough modes or a dedicated single player campaign. Hopefully Star Wars: Battlefront’s sequel is able to rectify this. Looks like the next few years could be great for Star Wars fans.
Star Wars Battlefront is an action shooter video game developed by EA DICE, with additional work from Criterion Games, and published by Electronic Arts. EA announced its financial results for the year today. The company reported $4.566 billion USD in net revenue for the year, and said sales of Star Wars Battlefront topped 14 million since the game released in November.
