Rush eSports Event: A Smorgasbord for the Geek – In Photos

Over this weekend, running from Friday, 21 July 2017, to Sunday, 23 July 2017, some of the leading eSports gamers in South Africa were giving it their all in various tournaments at the Rush eSports Event at the Sandton Convention Centre, Johannesburg.

This year sees the inaugural Rush event, designed by the creators of rAge and powered by HP Omen. While the VS Gaming FIFA Tournament was undoubtedly more prestigious in terms of overall turnout and prize money, the variation of competitive gaming and side competitions made the event more well-rounded. Furthermore, the attendance of a few Kaizer Chiefs football stars, and a few other top eSports gamers made it much more engaging as you were able to rub shoulders with some of South Africa’s sporting heroes, who more than generously took some time to have a chat with eager passers-by.

Sunday marked the finale of the four major tournaments happening on the day, which included FIFA 17, Street Fighter V, League of Legends and Counter Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO).

There were also a few other competitions running throughout the weekend, including a cosplay competition, which included a few really impressive designs. The main event was, undeniably, the FIFA challenge, which culminated in an intense final between two great opponents to give fans an enthralling 9-goal game, which ended 5-4 in the favour of Bevan after 120 minutes of play.

Check out our coverage from the day’s proceedings:
