With the success of Resident Evil 7 and the recent remake of Resident Evil 2 garnering critical acclaim, it was only a matter of time before a new entry in the series was announced. According to a recent post on 4Chan, Resident Evil 8, could be announced next month.
The post, which has already been removed, states that Sony will be hosting a special event at the beginning of February where the studio will reveal the PlayStation 5 and a number of unannounced games for the next-gen console. Among these games, it is rumoured that the next Resident Evil game will be announced, along with the sequels to Spider-Man and Horizon Zero Dawn.
As is the case with all anonymous 4Chan posts, this should be taken with a very small pinch of salt as there is not a lot of evidence to back this up. However, with many expecting Sony to reveal the PlayStation 5 at an event in February, similar to how they did with the PlayStation 4 reveal, it does make sense. Sony could use the opportunity to announce some brand new games for the next-gen console.
Both the sequels to Horizon Zero Dawn and Spider-Man have been rumoured to be in the works for quite some time, so it would come as no surprise if the post proved to be true.
On the other hand, it could also prove to be a hoax as Capcom will be releasing the Resident Evil 3 remake in April. This begs the question, will they announce another mainstream Resident Evil game so close to that release?
Twitter user AestheticGamer tweeted that the next Resident Evil game will not be a mainstream entry but possibly a spin-off and that Resident Evil 8 is still years away. AestheticGamer was also one of the first people to post leaks about the Resident Evil 3 remake, which proved to be true.
which will probably release next year, but it’s not a remake nor RE8.
And that’s all I’m gonna’ say, now don’t bother me about RE for a while please.

I guess we will have to wait and see whether the Resident Evil 8 reveal does actually happen. Capcom has been on a roll recently and we’d love to see them announce a new game in the franchise.
