Sony’s first quarterly financial results reveals that the PS4 has finally outsold the PS3.
The report reveals that the company has shipped 82.2 million PS4 units since the console’s launch. There was an obvious decline in sales over the last year, which many believe is due to this console generation nearing its end, especially with talk of the PlayStation 5.
Even with these rumours, the PS4 still shifted 3.2 million units over the last year. This helped it pass the PS3, which shipped around 80 million units.
Sony has had a great few years with the PS4. However, many have wondered if this streak will continue with the next generation of PlayStation consoles or whether Microsoft would be the one to lead the next generation. Judging by the rumours, we won’t have much longer to wait as many suspect new announcements as early as next year.
While the PlayStation 4 has been selling like hotcakes, PS Plus subscriptions seem to have been in decline. However, many would argue that this could be because of the lacklustre games that have been made available through the program recently.
With the PlayStation 4 being 5 years old already, there seems to be no stopping it. Let’s hope that Sony’s next console will be just as successful.
