Warner Bros. has released the first teaser trailer for director Todd Phillips‘ Joker starring Oscar-winner Joaquin Phoenix. And it’s electrifying. Get ready to say hello to an all-new incarnation of DC’s Clown Prince of Crime.
In the chilling new clip, we see Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix), a failed stand-up, doing everyday things – working as a clown on the street and helping his mother take a bath – as he finally going off the rails as he becomes the Joker and loses touch with reality. “Is it just me,” the Joker muses, “Or is it getting crazier out there?”
We also see some of the supporting cast, as well as the 1980s version of the famous Gotham City. Of course, there is no Batman in sight, allowing us to focus on the tragic story of one of the most famous villains of all time.
Also, it takes place in a separate universe. There is no connection to the DCEU here. Not to Aquaman or Shazam or Wonder Woman.
Directed by Todd Phillips, Joker stars Joaquin Phoenix, Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Dante Pereira-Olson, Douglas Hodge and Josh Pais. The film arrives in theatres October 4.
